Man killed in Pearl River County shooting

A Pearl River County man is dead after a shooting at his home at 56 Burgetown Road in Carriere on Saturday around 10 p.m.

According to the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department, the suspect, 40-year-old Alina Lamey of Carriere was arrested Sunday around 9 a.m.

She reportedly called authorities and said there was a bonfire at the man's home when shots were fired. She then reportedly told officials, the victim walked 50 feet to the front door of his home, fell down and died.

When officials arrived on the scene they found the victim laying dead on his front yard.

The Pearl River County Coroner said the man died from a single gunshot wound to his back.

His body was taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy. That autopsy is expected to be completed Monday.

The man's identity won't be released until all family members are notified. No one else was home at the time of the shooting and no other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing. No word yet on a motive. Officials said Lamey is believed to be the only suspect.

Lamey has been charged with murder and was transported to the Pearl River County Correctional Facility.
